PC players of Baldur’s Gate 3 can now download a mod that increases the level cap from 12 to 30. This mod allows players to become incredibly powerful, with stat boosts and other upgrades. Strong enemies will no longer pose a challenge once you reach level 30.
The mod, available on Nexus Mods, provides a detailed breakdown of the bonuses each class receives at level 21. These include additional spell slots and extra feats of your choice. Cantrips are also enhanced, increasing six times during a level up instead of three times. For example, the Fire Bolt cantrip can deal up to 6d10 damage. It seems that there are no bonuses for levels 13 through 20.
While some may criticize the level 12 cap set by Larian Studios, there is a reason behind it. Baldur’s Gate 3 is based on Dungeons & Dragons, and the abilities and spells beyond level 12 can become quite overpowered. These include abilities like time manipulation, instant enemy kills, and reality-altering wishes. Implementing these spells in a video game would be challenging, especially considering the limitations of recreating them accurately. In contrast, tabletop games like Dungeons & Dragons have no such constraints.
The mod strictly focuses on enhancing existing stat bonuses and abilities within the game, without introducing high-tier spells. Programming a spell with unlimited potential would be a daunting task for any development team, let alone an individual modder.
