FaZe Jev, a prominent Call of Duty player, highlights the major issues with Modern Warfare 3’s open beta. Non-existent visibility and confusing spawns are at the top of his list. However, he acknowledges that these problems are part of the infamous “Call of Duty cycle,” where a game’s success or failure doesn’t have a significant impact in the long run.
The open beta for Modern Warfare 3 is set to return from October 14th to October 19th, and players are demanding fixes for its gameplay issues. One of the main concerns is the placement of spawn points, which often make no sense for either team. FaZe Jev demonstrates this problem firsthand on the classic map Rust, stating, “I don’t even understand this spawn.”
Another issue highlighted by Jev is the power of head glitching, which has become even more prevalent in MW3. Players find it difficult to spot enemies, especially on the revived Modern Warfare 2 maps. Jev also points out a strange bug with flashbangs, where the indicator fails to blind the enemy even on direct impact.
Jev also mentions the increase in “sweaty” lobbies, where players are highly competitive and focused on winning. This shift towards intense gameplay may make casual play a thing of the past in MW3. However, it’s important to note that the beta attracts a higher level of play, with many professionals, content creators, and dedicated players participating.
Despite these issues, Jev questions whether they truly matter in the grand scheme of things. He refers to the “Call of Duty cycle,” where each new release generates initial excitement, followed by frustration with the inevitable problems, leading some players to quit. However, they often return the following year to repeat the cycle. This cycle is seen as part of the overall Call of Duty experience.
As a Reddit user aptly suggests, if players aren’t having fun, they should simply stop playing. Complaining about the game’s lack of balance or other issues doesn’t contribute to the development of the next Call of Duty installment. While the series may never achieve perfection, players will continue to pick up the controller and play.
In the past, Call of Duty had set metas that remained unchanged for extended periods. For example, everyone used the Intervention sniper rifle for long-range no-scopes. However, with frequent updates and changes, the meta now evolves every month. Redditors and FaZe Jev argue that while the Call of Duty series has its flaws, players will still engage with it, knowing that it offers a dynamic and ever-changing gaming experience.
