The new Molotov mechanics in CS2 make them much more brutal compared to CS:GO. Players now die 40% faster to Molotov damage when they are stacked, which could potentially make the map Ancient unplayable.
In Ancient, both teams are meant to fight for Mid control early in the round. However, with the new Molotov mechanic, CTs have a significant advantage. They can throw two Molotovs on Elbow to prevent Terrorists from accessing Mid, and another Molotov on B bombsite’s ramp.
This advantage was evident in one of my Ancient games, where the CTs had complete Mid control in every gun round. As a result, our Terrorist half became unplayable, leading to mistakes and devastating losses.
The impact of this Molotov change extends beyond casual play and may affect professional matches as well. Ancient could become more CT-sided than it was in CS:GO. While pros may figure out how to throw effective Molotovs on the Terrorist side, it will likely involve advanced techniques like jumpthrows, making it difficult for casual players to replicate.
On the other hand, CTs can easily execute the mentioned Molotovs when they have a favorable spawn. This further tilts the balance in their favor.
It’s important to consider this Molotov change when playing CS2. While the game may appear similar to CS:GO at first glance, there are new mechanics to learn, particularly with dynamic smoke grenades.
