Monk Class in Baldur’s Gate 3: The Hidden Powerhouse

Derek Morgan

When it comes to class selection in Baldur’s Gate 3, players have been overlooking one of the game’s most powerful classes. While Paladins have been the popular choice among players, it turns out that Monks are the true hidden powerhouse.

In a recent post by Larian Studios, it was revealed that Paladin was the most-selected class by players creating their own character. However, many players failed to realize the incredible potential of the Monk class.

According to statistics, Monk was among the least chosen classes, with Druid and Cleric being the only classes created less. But one player is here to prove that everyone has been missing out on the Ki-centric, unarmed combat expertise of the Monk.

A Reddit user shared an image showcasing the damage stats of their Monk’s ability called Flurry of Blows: Topple. With a damage range of 56-100, this ability surpasses the top-end damage of many other classes’ abilities at level 12.

The player’s Monk build boasts a +20 damage baseline, along with additional damage dice rolls including Necrotic, Force, and Radiant damage. What’s more, all of this can be executed as a Bonus Action, leaving the main action free for other purposes.

The player achieved these impressive stats by utilizing the Tavern Brawler feat and the Elixir of Cloud Giant, which grants 27 strength. The choice of Open Hand subclass allows them to change the Radiant damage to Psychic or Necrotic damage.

Furthermore, the player utilizes the Horns of the Berserker to add Necrotic damage and the Gloves of Soul Catching to add Force damage. The Boots of Uninhibited Kushigo also contribute by adding a Wisdom modifier to unarmed strikes, boosting the ability’s baseline damage.

All of these factors combined result in an incredible amount of damage for the Monk class, making it a force to be reckoned with in Baldur’s Gate 3. This revelation might even prompt players to start a new game just to experience the thrill of playing as a Monk.
