Mortal Kombat 1 Crash Reports Bleed Memory, Taking Up Gigabytes of Space

Tim Price

If you play Mortal Kombat 1 and notice your hard drive running low on space, it may be due to the game’s crash reports. Two players recently discovered that these reports are consuming a whopping gigabyte of memory each, causing quite a stir among the Mortal Kombat community. NetherRealm employees have acknowledged the issue in response to a viral tweet.

Kombatants X-Azeez and ElectricHat shared their findings, revealing that the crash reports in Mortal Kombat 1 are unusually large. While this problem has been observed in other games using Unreal Engine 5, such as Lords of The Fallen, MK1’s crash reports are particularly massive.

Whenever MK1 crashes on PC, it automatically generates a report and reserves 1GB of space for each report. This issue seems to be more prevalent in the PC port of the game. Some players have experienced numerous crashes before realizing the extent of the problem.

NetherRealm’s community manager, Cory Thalion, responded to the thread, assuring players that the team is investigating the issue. However, his comment got lost amidst the frustration expressed by players who have been dealing with frequent crashes.

To resolve this problem in MK1, you can manually delete the crash report files yourself. They can be found in C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Local\MK12\Saved\Steam\Crashes. Unfortunately, there is no option to disable crash reports, so you will need to regularly delete new files as they appear.
