Fans of Mortal Kombat 1 are expressing their disappointment with the game’s graphics on the Nintendo Switch. While the game has been praised for its impressive visuals on other platforms, the Switch version falls short with significant downgrades.
On September 17, a Twitter user shared screenshots comparing the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch versions. The PlayStation 5 version showcases high-fidelity modern graphics, while the Switch version lacks proper facial animations. The user called it a “robbery” and questioned why the Switch version is priced the same as the visually stunning PlayStation 5 release.
Some users suggested that Netherrealm should have waited for the next generation of Nintendo consoles, especially since the Nintendo Switch 2 was recently showcased at Gamescom and rumored to be released in the second half of 2024. Considering the importance of visual fidelity in the game’s design, this seems like a valid concern.
Another post highlighted the absence of proper facial animations in the Switch version, comparing it to the expressive rendering of characters in the PlayStation 5 version. The lack of facial expressions in the Switch version drew comparisons to older consoles like the PlayStation 2. This tweet gained over 60 thousand likes, indicating widespread disappointment.
Some users also compared the situation to Bethesda’s Starfield, which has faced criticism for its poor facial animations.
However, there are also users who defend the Switch version, acknowledging the limitations of the console’s hardware compared to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. They find it impressive that the Switch can handle such a massive title, citing previous successful releases like The Witcher 3.
Mortal Kombat 1 was released on September 14 and is available on both last and current-generation consoles.
