A recent Reddit post revealed that a significant number of players prefer to play Starfield, Bethesda’s expansive RPG, in first-person view. While the game defaults to a third-person perspective, players have the option to switch to first-person, and it seems that many have taken advantage of this feature.
When asked if they played Starfield entirely in first person, the majority of respondents answered affirmatively. Reasons for this preference varied, with some players stating that they always prefer first-person gameplay when available, while others mentioned a desire to avoid constantly seeing their character’s mining suit.
Personally, I also fall into the first-person category and have exclusively played Starfield from that perspective while on foot. However, I switch to third-person when piloting my ship, as my aim is less than stellar in first-person mode.
There have been instances where this choice has surprised me, particularly during cutscenes where my character is shown from a different angle. It made me realize that I have completely forgotten what my character actually looks like beneath the Starborn Suit. Nevertheless, I have adopted this approach in all Bethesda games, such as Skyrim and Fallout 4, as I generally prefer the immersive experience of first-person action.
Playing in first-person allows me to avoid staring at my potentially horrifying character’s face and save that delightful sight for the NPCs I encounter.
