New AI-Based System Aims to Combat Hate Speech in Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare 2

superadmin

Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare 2 players are all too familiar with the prevalence of hate speech during gaming sessions. However, a new system introduced today aims to put an end to as much of that as possible.

On August 30, the official Call of Duty Twitter account announced the implementation of a new AI-based detection system in North America. This specific voice chat detection software will monitor every word spoken in real-time.

The announcement received a flood of responses from players who seemed disappointed that they can no longer use offensive language to harass others. The system utilizes ToxMod, an AI-powered voice chat moderation technology developed by Modulate, the company partnered with Activision for this project.

Activision has confirmed the timeline for implementing ToxMod. The beta rollout began on August 30 in North America, with plans to activate the system in other regions. Except for Asia, all other regions will have this voice detection system in place starting from the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on November 10. The reason for the delayed release in Asia was not mentioned.

Modulate’s official website lists several companies and games that trust their technology, including Schell Games and Rec Room. ToxMod uses machine learning to identify hate speech, discriminatory language, and harassment. Over time, the AI will become more adept at catching offenders and dealing with toxic behavior.

One comment in response to CharlieIntel’s post on the news suggests that about “half the player base” may not last long with this new system. Such comments highlight the rampant presence of toxic speech within the Call of Duty community.

While anti-cheat software has been in place for Warzone and Modern Warfare 2, the introduction of this new voice detection software will make the servers safer and more welcoming for everyone. This is a positive step towards ensuring the best experience for players and keeping hate speech out of the community.
