In a recent thread on the New World subreddit, players shared their reasons for preferring this game over others, despite its lack of prestige.
One major factor that sets New World apart from other MMOs is its unique combat system. Many players believe that combat in New World is far superior to that of other games on the market. The need to aim abilities, target enemies with precision, and approach combat like a shooter or single-player game adds a refreshing twist to the MMO experience.
“As someone who has played World of Warcraft PvP for years, WoW’s and FFXIV’s combat systems are just terrible,” said Valvador, a Reddit user and New World player. “FFXIV’s combat is by far the worst. The only upside to WoW is its predictable combat due to the lack of physics, but it’s still boring. The developers are aware of this, which is why the average damage rotation feels like playing a piano.”
New World players agree that combat feels engaging and enjoyable compared to other MMOs. Even fighting random mobs on the street feels worthwhile in New World, as it offers the opportunity to gain experience and improve weapon skills.
Another player named JeffSantos07 added, “It’s the ONLY MMO out right now that doesn’t have terrible combat in my opinion. Of course, it’s a matter of preference, as some people love Black Desert Online’s combat, but I personally dislike it. New World has perfected combat and is the closest thing to TERA.”
Unlike other MMOs where combat revolves around class rotations and timing windows, New World focuses on landing abilities, utilizing auto attacks, and blocking effectively. The game limits players to three active skills at a time, which is a significant departure from the dozen or more abilities that WoW classes and specs typically have to manage.
