Niantic is taking action against Pokémon Go players who have been using a clever exploit to gain an unfair advantage in the game. These players have been farming up to 120 XL Candy per hour by manipulating Routes, but as of today, Niantic is banning those involved. Penalties range from 30-day suspensions to permanent bans.
The exploit required players to create a route and use two external applications, OP Auto Clicker and GPS Joystick, on a jailbroken device. By adjusting certain settings, they were able to trick their device’s GPS into repeatedly skipping to the end of the route, surpassing the intended limit.
While not many players resorted to this complicated exploit, those who did have confirmed their bans on August 28. The community is pleased with this action and believes that anyone who engaged in the exploit should receive a permanent ban, regardless of frequency.
However, some players have taken this opportunity to express their frustration with the scarcity and design of Routes. They find it difficult to locate Routes, with some even passing through private properties. The lack of incentive rewards and overall poor design have also been criticized.
Despite these concerns, Niantic has prioritized addressing the issue of exploiting Routes to maintain fairness among players. While other issues surrounding Routes remain unresolved, players can be assured that Niantic is actively preventing unfair advantages.
