Vertigo, one of the most divisive maps in competitive Counter-Strike, has received harsh criticism from top players. G2’s star Rifler, NiKo, expressed his strong dislike for the map, stating that it was “fucking shit” in CS:GO and somehow managed to become even worse in CS2. Piotr “nawrot” Nawrocki, the head coach of 9ine, the best CS:GO Vertigo team, echoed NiKo’s sentiment, calling for Valve to remove Vertigo from the map pool.
Competitive Counter-Strike fans and players have long despised Vertigo for several reasons. The map’s small size and vertical design heavily favor the CTs, granting them valuable information about the Ts’ movements without much effort. It is nearly impossible for Ts to make any moves on the map without the CTs hearing them and knowing their exact location, sometimes even before they arrive.
Furthermore, the map’s layout funnels the Ts towards the B Site, making an A Ramp push the most viable option. This has led to Vertigo being mockingly referred to as an “A Ramp Simulator,” with victories often determined by which team can better control or attack the ramp. The overemphasis on one area of the map leaves little room for diverse strategies and executions, disappointing hardcore fans who crave more variety.
While Vertigo does have some redeeming qualities, such as the amusing worksite accident counter that tallies player falls, these aspects may not be enough to justify its inclusion in the competitive map pool of CS2. Unfortunately, the only alternative map that could replace Vertigo is Dust II, a two-decade-old CS staple that many players have grown tired of.
The solution seems clear: Valve should bring back Train as soon as possible, sparing players from the agony of enduring Vertigo any longer.
