In a recent interview, Eiji Aonuma, the lead producer of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, revealed that there are no plans for additional content for the game. Aonuma stated that the team feels they have created a complete and enjoyable experience in the world of Breath of the Wild and its sequel. While bug fixes and small updates will continue to be released, there will be no DLC expansions like those seen in Breath of the Wild.
The director of Tears of the Kingdom, Hidemaro Fujibayashi, mentioned that the team is already thinking about the next exciting experience for the Zelda franchise, but they are unsure of what form it will take. Aonuma also left the possibility open for future DLC if new ideas arise that can enhance the world of Hyrule in a meaningful way. However, for now, he hopes that players will look forward to a completely new way to play, whether it be through another sequel or a brand new game.
It is interesting to note that Tears of the Kingdom originated from ideas that were developed during DLC production for Breath of the Wild. The team saw potential in these ideas and decided to expand upon them to create a new game. Despite the success and impact of Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, Fujibayashi emphasized that they do not view these games as hurdles for their future work. He simply asks players to keep their expectations high for future projects, promising to make the next game even more enjoyable.
