NRG Close to Signing CS2 Roster for Return to Counter-Strike

Xavier Ward

NRG is on the verge of signing a CS2 roster to make a comeback in Counter-Strike after a four-year absence. The team will consist of oSee as the AWPer, daps as the IGL, and Brehze as the rifler, according to a report from HLTV on Nov. 27.

The remaining two spots on the team are still being decided, with NRG considering FaNg and HexT for the roles. Both players are currently under contract with Complexity and Evil Geniuses respectively, and acquiring them would require buyouts. If NRG signs all five players, North American fans will have a new CS2 team to support in the 2024 season.

Daps is reportedly starting his third stint with NRG. The quintet of daps, oSee, Brehze, FaNg, and HexT were seen playing together on FACEIT on Nov. 27, which supports HLTV’s report. Among these players, oSee has been performing exceptionally well, having been part of Team Liquid’s starting lineup from December 2021 to November 2023.

The other players have not reached oSee’s level of performance. Daps has mostly been coaching Liquid for the past two years and is not at his peak in terms of mechanical skill. Brehze and HexT did not achieve significant success with EG during the same period, and FaNg has been on Complexity’s bench since June.

NRG may have been motivated to give daps and Brehze an opportunity because they previously played together for the organization from 2016 to 2019. During that time, they helped NRG become a top-four team in the world and achieve deep runs in prestigious tournaments. NRG has been absent from CS since September 2019 when they sold their lineup to EG.

NRG’s return is good news for the NA scene, as Complexity, Liquid, Nouns, and EG are the only organizations investing in NA players. However, there are concerns that EG may be leaving esports after recent layoffs of multiple employees.
