Outrage as Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Features In-Game Advertisement

Derek Morgan

A recent clip from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has sparked anger among fans due to the inclusion of an advertisement for Assassin’s Creed Mirage during gameplay. The ad appears when players try to open the map, causing the game to pause and display a Black Friday promotion for Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which is currently on sale for 20% off. This intrusive ad has upset many players, especially considering that Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is a full-priced game.

The original clip was shared on Reddit by user triddell24 on November 22, and it was revealed that the same issue occurs on both Xbox and PlayStation versions of the game. There are also claims of similar ads appearing in Assassin’s Creed Origins, indicating that publisher Ubisoft is responsible for these advertisements.

Fans have expressed their frustration in the Reddit thread, with some users stating that they will uninstall Assassin’s Creed Odyssey or boycott Ubisoft games altogether. The presence of ads in a game that players have already paid for is seen as unacceptable and a way for Ubisoft to extract additional funds from their customers.

This is not the first time a game publisher has faced backlash for including in-game ads. In 2020, EA Sports UFC 4 received ads that would appear during gameplay, but they were quickly removed due to the negative response from players. People generally dislike being advertised to, especially after they have already made a purchase. The last thing players want is to be prompted to spend more money on additional products.

Overall, the inclusion of in-game advertisements in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has caused outrage among fans, leading to calls for a boycott of Ubisoft games until the issue is resolved. Players believe that they should not be subjected to ads in a game they have already paid for, and they expect a better experience without intrusive promotions.
