Overwatch 2 Battling Bot Swarms in Competitive Matches

Xavier Ward

Overwatch 2 players are facing a major issue with bot swarms infiltrating their competitive matches. These bots are appearing as frequently as every second lobby, causing frustration among the community. Some players have even encountered full stacks of five enemy bots.

Blizzard, the developer of Overwatch 2, does not include built-in bots in the game. It is believed that these bots are part of “bot farm” accounts, which automatically rank up Overwatch smurfs to be sold later to players looking for additional profiles.

The problem seems to be widespread, with players from the EU region also reporting similar experiences. These AI-controlled players exhibit strange movement, engage in reckless behavior, and rarely contribute more than 1k damage or healing.

Overwatch 2 is not the only game grappling with bot invasions. Last year, Team Fortress 2 faced a massive bot invasion, with the game’s player count skyrocketing but most of them being bots. Unlike the bots in TF2, these Overwatch 2 bots do not appear to have aimbot or other cheats enabled. They simply wander around without accomplishing much.

Players are hoping that Blizzard will swiftly address this issue, especially in competitive environments. Valve, the developer of TF2, took a considerable amount of time to tackle the bot invasion in their game, and it was never completely eradicated.

Dot Esports has reached out to Blizzard for comment on these bot-player claims.
