Overwatch 2 Fans Demand the Return of Six-vs-Six Gameplay in Arcade Mode

Tim Price

Overwatch 2 players are unhappy with the game’s switch from six-vs-six to five-vs-five gameplay. The removal of one tank hero has disrupted team chemistry and caused many players to lose their place in pre-built teams. However, inspired by the success of nostalgic game modes like Fortnite’s recent OG release, some players are questioning if six-vs-six gameplay could make a comeback.

The elimination of one tank hero in Overwatch 2 has received widespread criticism. Solo tank players now face increased pressure, and the synergy between main tanks and off-tanks has been lost, leaving teammates vulnerable. The game has become more focused on survival rather than tactics and teamwork.

While most players have accepted that Overwatch 2 will not return to six-vs-six in competitive and professional play, some fans have suggested the introduction of a single six-vs-six mode in the Arcade. This idea sparked a discussion within the Overwatch community.

There are concerns about the feasibility of a six-vs-six Arcade mode, as the game’s engine is not designed to support 12 players in a lobby anymore. However, proponents of the idea pointed out other chaotic Arcade modes like Mystery Heroes and Total Mayhem.

While some players agreed with the suggestion, others highlighted the emergence of a different type of player in Overwatch 2. These “classic” Overwatch players, who have been with the game since its original announcement nine years ago, long for the excitement of playing the game as it was initially experienced.

Drawing inspiration from the recent success of Fortnite OG, where players flocked back to the battle royale game to relive the thrills of its early days, Overwatch players wondered why Blizzard couldn’t do the same. Some argued that reintroducing six-vs-six gameplay would attract more players, as there are friends who refuse to play Overwatch 2 due to the five-vs-five format.

Blizzard has already taken a similar approach with World of Warcraft, creating a “classic” version of the game that has garnered a passionate fanbase. It is evident that as a game grows and attracts a diverse player base, there is a longing among long-time players to revisit the past.

Overall, Overwatch 2 fans are demanding the return of six-vs-six gameplay in an Arcade mode, inspired by the success of nostalgic game modes in other titles. They believe it would bring back the excitement and attract more players, particularly those who have been with the game since its inception.
