Overwatch 2 Game Director Plans Adjustments for New Tank Hero Mauga

Xavier Ward

The team behind Overwatch 2 is already working on improving the game’s upcoming tank hero, Mauga. Game director Aaron Keller recently shared in a blog post that they have decided to make some adjustments to Mauga based on feedback from fans.

Following a successful weekend-long free trial for the hero, Keller outlined several changes that will be implemented when Mauga is officially added to the game at the beginning of season eight next month. The main focus will be on increasing Mauga’s survivability, making his damage against smaller targets more reliable, and reducing his damage output against larger characters like tanks.

While specific figures were not provided, Keller mentioned five key changes that will enhance Mauga’s survivability. These include replacing some health with armor, reducing the hitbox size of his head, increasing damage reduction during his Overrun ability, and boosting the lifesteal from Cardiac Overdrive. Additionally, there will be significant adjustments to Mauga’s weapons, with testing being done on different spreads, firing rates, damage, ammo, and falloff numbers.

Mauga was introduced during BlizzCon earlier this month, and players had the opportunity to try him out in all game modes except for competitive. He will be officially released on December 5th when season eight begins, with his availability in competitive mode expected about two weeks later, following the usual pattern for new heroes.
