Overwatch 2 Patch Gives McCree a Surprising Buff

Xavier Ward

The latest update for Overwatch 2 has brought some unexpected changes to the hero McCree. In particular, his Combat Roll ability has received a significant buff, making him more resilient in battle.

Previously, when using Combat Roll, McCree had a damage reduction of 50 percent. However, in the recent patch, this was increased to a whopping 75 percent. This change has had some surprising consequences, as players have discovered that McCree can now survive close-range explosions, such as D.Va’s ultimate ability.

In a video shared by players, McCree can be seen dodging just before a D.Va explosion and surviving with a mere 25HP. While the timing may seem a bit off, it demonstrates the newfound tankiness of McCree. Players were shocked by this revelation, especially when someone mentioned that McCree could also survive Junkrat’s RIP-Tire.

Despite these surprising developments, fans generally agree that this change is not game-breaking. Many heroes have the ability to evade ultimates, and while it may seem strange for a cowboy to casually ignore a car-sized bomb explosion, it does not significantly impact gameplay. Additionally, McCree’s low health pool means that he can still be easily eliminated by the enemy team if not careful.

It is interesting to note that McCree received a major damage reduction buff while another problematic hero, Orisa, received minimal changes in this patch. Fans had hoped for more adjustments to Orisa’s Fortify ability, but it only saw a minor reduction of 5 percent in damage reduction.

Some speculate that the buff to McCree’s Combat Roll was intended to give the ability more value overall. Previously, the roll was primarily used for dodging and reloading, but now it can be a valuable tool for surviving intense engagements or damage ultimates. However, for McCree to truly become a close-range hero, further changes to his kit may be necessary, such as the addition of a passive ability.

Overall, the latest Overwatch 2 patch has brought some unexpected changes to McCree, making him more resilient in battle. While this buff may seem surprising, it does not significantly impact gameplay and adds an interesting dynamic to McCree’s playstyle.
