Overwatch 2 Players Want More Early Testing Periods for New Heroes

Derek Morgan

Overwatch 2 players are calling for more early testing periods for new heroes, following the successful release of Mauga. Mauga, the game’s newest tank character, was made available for a 48-hour period after being revealed at BlizzCon 2023. Players on Reddit have praised this approach, stating that it allowed them to assess Mauga’s impact on the meta and identify potential synergies with other heroes, such as Bastion. While some players remain cautious about potential issues upon Mauga’s full release, they still support this new release model.

In contrast, previous hero releases, such as Lifeweaver, faced criticism due to clunky controls and abilities. Lifeweaver did not have the benefit of an early testing period, serving as a cautionary tale for future hero introductions. Now, fans eagerly await Mauga’s full release, which is scheduled for December 5th alongside Overwatch 2’s eighth season.

Hero Release Date Player Feedback
Mauga November 3rd (48-hour release) Positive feedback, desire for more early testing periods
Lifeweaver No early testing period Criticism for clunky controls and abilities
