Starbreeze CEO Tobias Sjögren has hinted at the possibility of an offline mode being added to Payday 3 in response to the game’s ongoing server errors. While this news brings hope to frustrated fans, it is yet to be confirmed.
Sjögren’s statement was made in reply to a streamer who expressed disappointment when it was announced that Payday 3 would be online only. In his response, Sjögren humorously suggested considering Game Pass instead of dismissing the game entirely. He then mentioned that the team is exploring the potential of incorporating some form of offline mode.
Although it is unclear where lead producer Andreas Häll Penninger communicated this intention, Sjögren’s statement implies that the team is actively considering a solo mode for the game. This could alleviate the server issues and provide players with the option to play even when the servers are down.
The current state of Payday 3’s servers has been highly problematic since its release. While the game itself is enjoyable, players face numerous difficulties when attempting to join heists due to server errors. Introducing an offline mode would not only allow uninterrupted gameplay during server outages but also reduce the strain on the servers, as many players prefer to play alone regardless of server status.
Additionally, Payday 3 lacks the option for players to choose their preferred play style when searching for a match. This often leads to frustration, as players may prefer to complete heists quietly and stealthily on their own rather than relying on the cooperation of random teammates.
While fixing the servers is crucial, implementing a solo play option and improving public matchmaking preferences would further enhance the gaming experience. However, even with these changes, there is still a possibility of players disconnecting from a heist if stealth is accidentally broken.
It is evident that there is a strong demand for a solo play option in Payday 3, and it would not be a challenging task to incorporate this feature. Sjögren’s assurance that the game will continue to be developed for years to come is promising, as long as the development team actively listens and responds to the community’s feedback.
