Players are drawn to the irresistible temptation of robbing a bank in the third act of Baldur’s Gate 3. The vault is filled with gold and valuable items, and despite being Lawful Good characters, players can’t resist the opportunity. However, is there more to this story than meets the eye?
In a Reddit thread from Oct. 20, players shared their strategies and theories regarding the surprisingly weak security in the Counting House during act three.
Upon entering the bank, the clerk initially tries to prevent access to the vault by asking for a vault pass. However, players can easily bypass this requirement by claiming to be gang members, allowing them entry without any further questions.
Once inside the vault, it becomes apparent that there are no guards or security measures in place to deter thieves from taking all the valuable loot. There are no traps or protective spells, and even the locks can be picked with basic tools or spells.
Interestingly, if players assist the guards in dealing with the cultists deeper within the vault, they are granted permission to lockpick all the safes and take whatever they desire. This raises questions about why anyone would trust this bank with even the smallest deposits.
Near the bank entrance, a visitors’ journal provides a detailed account of what happened to the guards in the Counting House. It is revealed that the banker, Rakath, dismissed them. Additionally, a letter found in the mailbox explains the lack of magical security: the bank recently experienced a flood, forcing the disabling of the security systems.
It is commendable that Larian Studios took the time to provide a reasonable explanation for the absence of security in the bank, ensuring it was not simply an oversight. Regardless of a player’s character alignment, the Counting House presents an excellent opportunity to acquire extra gold and unique items at the beginning of act three.
