Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s first expansion, The Teal Mask, was released on Sept. 13, and players are already noticing a rise in the appearance of Shiny Pokémon, which are typically rare finds.
Players have taken to social media to share their experiences, with some reporting an influx of Shiny Pokémon sightings. One player on Reddit mentioned discovering five Shiny Pokémon without actively searching for them.
“I haven’t specifically hunted for them or used any special techniques, yet I’ve encountered five different shinies just by following the story and exploring,” the user said. “I’ve had the shiny charm for months now, and it has never been this easy.”
Other players commented that they have had the opposite experience in Kitakami, suggesting that the frequency of Shiny sightings may vary depending on the location. However, it is possible that this particular player is exceptionally lucky.
Shortly after the expansion’s release, data miners discovered that static encounters in the DLC were Shiny-locked, making it more challenging to obtain Shiny Pokémon. Despite this, some players have still managed to find an abundance of Shiny Pokémon in the wild. It is possible that the probability of encountering Shinies in the wild was adjusted to compensate for the lack of Shinies in static encounters.
The Teal Mask expansion has only been available for a few days, so it will take time for players to determine the exact probabilities and best strategies for obtaining Shiny Pokémon. However, the fact that one player has found so many in such a short period gives hope that there are more out there waiting to be discovered.
