The PlayStation Portal has arrived, and while it’s a hit among gamers on the go, players of Alan Wake 2 are facing a major hurdle. The touch screen on the PlayStation Portal doesn’t seem to be working properly for this game, causing button presses to go unrecognized. This is a significant problem because Alan Wake 2 heavily relies on the touchpad of the PlayStation Dualsense controller for essential actions like opening the map and entering the Mind Palace.
Fortunately, players have discovered a temporary fix for this issue. By placing both thumbs on the screen and double-tapping, the touch screen starts responding. This workaround was shared by a player on Reddit.
The exact cause of this problem is unclear. Players have reported no issues with the touch screen in other games, suggesting that it’s a compatibility problem between Alan Wake 2 and the PlayStation Portal.
A future patch is expected to address this problem once the developers identify the root cause. As Alan Wake 2 and the PlayStation Portal were released closely together, many Portal owners are likely eager to try out the game, making this issue particularly frustrating.
Since we’re still in the early days of PlayStation’s handheld game-streaming future, it’s possible that more bugs like this will arise with future releases.
If you’re lucky enough to be in the U.S. or other countries where the Portal is available, you can check out the official Sony website to see if it’s the right device for you. However, not all regions have received the PlayStation Portal yet, and some may have to wait until 2024 or later.
