A Dutch artist brings a touch of the 15th century to the Pokémon world with his Renaissance-style paintings of the original generation. Jochum’s unique artwork has captured the hearts of fans worldwide, who are now eagerly awaiting more.
Jochum’s oil paintings have garnered praise from the Pokémon community, with many expressing interest in purchasing his creations. Fans have also suggested which Pokémon they would like to see him paint next, including popular choices like Psyduck and Articuno.
In an interview, Jochum revealed that he didn’t expect such a tremendous response to his project. He explained that the main motivation behind it was his love for painting. When asked about future plans, Jochum mentioned that he is particularly excited to paint Cubone or Jynx, as they offer unique and intriguing artistic opportunities.
Since sharing his artwork, Jochum has received over 75 commission requests from fans who want their own Pokémon painted in his Renaissance style. This overwhelming demand has even made him consider quitting his job to focus solely on completing these commissions. However, he acknowledges the stability of his current employment and plans to balance both commitments for now.
Jochum has also provided a glimpse into his artistic process through his TikTok account, allowing fans to see how he brings these Renaissance-inspired Pokémon to life.
While Jochum’s artwork captures the spirit of the Renaissance, there is another Pokémon collaboration that appeals to fans of post-impressionism. The Van Gogh Museum and Pokémon have joined forces to create a special edition Pikachu card in the style of Van Gogh’s iconic paintings. This collaboration has sparked excitement among collectors who are eager to add this unique card to their collection.
In an ideal world, fans would be able to collect a complete set of 151 Pokémon cards featuring Jochum’s Renaissance-inspired art. Perhaps one day, this dream will become a reality.
