Pokémon Fans Demand Buffs for Meganium in Gen IX Games

Tim Price

Pokémon players are eagerly awaiting the release of The Indigo Disk DLC for the Gen IX games, which will feature the return of Starter Pokémon like Squirtle, Bulbasaur, and Incineroar. However, fans are particularly hopeful that the Gen II Grass Starter, Meganium, will receive a much-needed buff to make it more competitive in battle.

In the previous DLC, The Teal Mask, the Gen IV Starters received significant buffs, with Torterra and Infernape gaining access to better moves and Empoleon’s Hidden Ability being upgraded. This has led players to believe that Meganium and the other Starters could also receive improvements in The Indigo Disk.

Historically, Meganium has been considered one of the weaker Starter Pokémon due to its average stats. None of its stats exceed 100, making it mediocre in offense, defense, and speed. To stand out in battle, a Pokémon typically needs exceptional stats in at least one area.

While some weaker Pokémon can compensate with powerful Abilities or moves, Meganium’s Leaf Guard ability and move pool have not proven to be competitive advantages. This is why players are hoping for positive changes for Meganium in The Indigo Disk DLC.

Giving Meganium a better Ability, such as Flower Gift or Hospitality, would make it a more supportive ally, strengthening the team or providing healing in double battles. Expanding its move pool to include useful moves like Pollen Puff or Grassy Glide would also give Meganium more options to find its place on a competitive team.

The Indigo Disk DLC is set to be released in the winter, so fans will have to wait and see if Meganium receives the buffs they desire.
