Fans of the Pokémon series recently engaged in a discussion about type combinations that are unlikely to appear in the games. With 18 different types in the series, there are numerous possibilities for unique combinations, but some fans believe certain combinations may never become a reality.
One popular combination that fans often mention is Bug/Dragon. While this concept sounds exciting, it is unlikely to happen. Pokémon like Flygon and Yanmega could have been Bug/Dragon types, given their designs and inspirations from dragonflies, but they ended up with different types instead.
Another combination that fans believe is unlikely is Normal/Ice and Normal/Rock. The main issue with these combinations is their vulnerability to Fighting-type attacks. Being part-Normal type doesn’t always add much value to a Pokémon, but some players argue that certain Pokémon, such as Rockruff and Lycanroc, could have benefited from it.
Interestingly, Game Freak has been more open to adding new Normal-type combinations in recent games. For example, Legends: Arceus introduced the Normal/Ghost Hisuian Zorua and Zoroark, and Gen IX brought us the Poison/Normal Shroodle and Grafaiai. This suggests that we may see more Normal-type combinations in the future as the Pokédex continues to expand.
While some fans may have to wait longer for their desired type combinations, it is possible that Game Freak will eventually embrace these unused typings. As the Pokémon series evolves with each new generation, the potential for new and unique combinations becomes greater.
