Pokémon Go Community Day Bug: Showcases Feature Wrong Pokémon, Niantic Acknowledges Issue

Tim Price

Pokémon Go’s monthly Community Day events are usually reliable and bug-free, but a persistent issue with the game’s Showcase mechanic has left fans frustrated. Since the Wooper and Paldean Wooper Community Day on November 5th, players have noticed that the Showcase content has been featuring the wrong Pokémon. Instead of showcasing the designated Pokémon, active PokéStops have been asking players to display their best Squirtle. This issue has persisted for months, even outside of Community Days, with Squirtle appearing in Showcases instead of the intended Pokémon.

The recent Mareep Community Day Classic on November 25th confirmed that the bug is still present, as Showcases during the event featured Squirtle instead of the Electric-type Pokémon that players were catching. Niantic acknowledged the issue but did not provide any further explanation or mention of a fix. Surprisingly, the bug is not listed on Niantic’s support website under known issues.

This ongoing bug has frustrated many Pokémon Go players, especially those who have been saving specific Pokémon to showcase. Some players have expressed their disappointment and frustration, stating that they are done trying to utilize this broken feature. One user commented, “With this, I’m just done. No more saving or storing, I’ll just put up whatever I catch when the showcase is activated.”

While this bug may not directly impact Community Day gameplay for most players, it does detract from the overall experience for those who want to use the Showcase feature. It also highlights a continued bug that Niantic has only recently acknowledged without providing any information about a fix. The only positive aspect is that it seems Squirtle that has already won a recent Showcase cannot be used, which gives new entrants a chance to win rewards.
