If you were excited about Pokémon Go’s highly anticipated Halloween event on October 31st, hoping to collect a bunch of Rare Candy, you’re not alone in feeling disappointed by Niantic—once again.
The Pokémon Go subreddit (TheSilphRoad) is filled with posts expressing frustration about the recent Halloween event being a letdown. While it wasn’t exactly a hoax, Niantic did distribute Rare Candy for catching costumed Pokémon during the event. However, the catch was that the event started at 10 am and ended at 7 pm, while players were expecting it to begin at midnight.
Niantic failed to announce the event’s timings, leading many players to venture out at midnight in hopes of farming Rare Candy and Rare Candy XL. Despite catching several costumed Pokémon, they didn’t receive any Rare Candies. Naturally, players believed that Niantic had forgotten to activate the event.
It was only when Niantic responded to a tweet that players realized the event was actually supposed to start at 10 am.
I sympathize with those who spent hours during the night and early morning grinding Pokémon Go for costumed Pokémon, only to receive nothing special in return. To make matters worse, the drop rate of Rare Candy was extremely low even after the event began. Players reported catching over 300 Pokémon without receiving any Candy.
One player summarized the situation perfectly, highlighting the main issues with such events: the low drop rates for rewards. We could overlook the timing mishap, but it’s unfair for Niantic to reward players with just one Rare Candy after catching over 400 costumed Pokémon.
In addition to the outrageously low drop rate and the timing confusion, many players pointed out that Niantic chose a Halloween event timeframe between 10 am and 7 pm, when most people are either at school or work. It’s also puzzling why a Halloween event would end at 7 pm.
Niantic has consistently failed to satisfy players with its drop rate-enhancing events in Pokémon Go, making them more challenging than rewarding. For most of us, it was just another day of grinding without any significant rewards. It felt like a regular day for Pokémon enthusiasts on mobile.
