Pokémon Go Player Claims Niantic Violates Australian Law by Refusing Refund for Hacked Account

superadmin

A Pokémon Go player in Australia has accused Niantic of breaking the law by refusing to provide a refund after their account was hacked. The player was banned from the game on the day of the Go Fest event, despite retrieving their hacked account. They attempted to contact Niantic and Google for a refund but were unsuccessful.

The player argues that Niantic’s refusal to issue a refund goes against Australian Consumer Law, which states that a purchased product must be usable for its intended purpose. They plan to report the matter to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

In addition, the player claims that Niantic is also violating Google Play’s refund policy. By raising this issue, they hope to prompt a change in Niantic’s global refund policy.

Pokémon Go’s in-game shop purchases policy advises players seeking refunds to contact app stores rather than the developer. However, it is unclear if this policy applies to Pokémon Go Fest tickets, as they are not purchased with in-game currency.
