Pokémon Go Players Continue to Criticize Routes, Questionable Ones Strengthen Complaints

Derek Morgan

Pokémon Go players are still expressing strong criticism of Routes, and the emergence of some questionable ones in the game has only reinforced the community’s complaints.

In a Reddit thread dated October 8th, a player shared what appears to be the worst Route ever approved in the game, posing a single question: “Why?”

The thread showcased a messy creation that barely resembled a Route, as it didn’t even follow existing paths. Furthermore, according to its information, it was estimated to take over seven hours to complete.

The Route was seemingly submitted as a joke, with the user not expecting it to be approved, evident from its name “Noodley Labyrinth.”

The thread quickly gained attention from the community, as players have been criticizing Niantic’s approval process since the feature was introduced to the game.

“I live for hilariously bad routes. They’re so inconvenient and funny at the same time. It’s like Niantic looked at that and thought: yep, looks good,” wrote one of the top-rated comments.

Another user reacted by saying, “It’s just disheartening when your very normal and simple route that would improve your daily life gets rejected.”

This follows another thread from October 3rd where a player claimed to have “created the stupidest Route” that was quickly approved. It was a simple loop repeated multiple times, leading to a Gym.

Other players shared numerous examples of uninteresting or poorly designed Routes that were approved in the game, highlighting Niantic’s questionable approval processes.

On October 2nd, the developer announced several quality-of-life improvements for Routes. One of these was expanding the pool of players eligible to suggest Routes, which raised concerns among players due to the already lengthy approval process. However, no changes were revealed regarding how Routes are approved or rejected.

These peculiar Routes are unlikely to reassure players, but there is one positive aspect: players will have more Routes to complete in their vicinity. While they may not offer the best itineraries, they do provide valuable rewards, such as Zygarde cells, upon completion.

The developer has promised fans that more changes will be made to Routes in the future, including widening the pool of eligible Pokémon Go players for Route submission. However, it remains unclear if there will be any alterations to the review process and approval criteria.
