Pokémon Go Players Demand Better Rewards for Defending Gyms

superadmin

Pokémon Go players are fed up with the current Gym system and its lackluster rewards. They agree that they need more Coins for defending Gyms, but there is disagreement on how to bring a breath of fresh air to the feature.

Since the developer’s decision to increase the price of Remote Raid Passes and impose a daily use limit, players have been complaining about various aspects of Pokémon Go. Raids and Gyms, in particular, have not been spared.

On August 30, players took to Reddit to discuss the rewards for defending Gyms. Currently, players earn Pokémon Coins over time when their Pokémon are stationed in Gyms, with a daily limit of 50 Coins.

With the recent increase in the price of Remote Raid Passes, players argue that they now need more Coins than ever to access content. One player stated, “Raid passes cost 525, which means you have to play for ten days to get three. And this doesn’t even take into account the need to upgrade Pokémon storage.”

In addition to costly Raid Passes, players who want to complete their Pokédex and keep at least one of each species in their storage will have to purchase eight Pokémon Storage upgrades.

They start with a free limit of 300, and each upgrade allows for an additional 50 Pokémon, costing a total of 200 Coins. To have sufficient storage, players would need to spend a total of 1,600 Coins.

Players suggested replacing the daily limit with a weekly one, so if all their Pokémon were kicked out of Gyms on the same day, they would receive 350 Coins.

However, there was no consensus on what additional rewards could be obtained from defending Gyms to make it more worthwhile, or how the feature should be changed to renew interest. In a separate thread, one player suggested that the developer reward Stardust when the Coin limit is reached, but the community’s reactions were mixed.

While some players responded positively to the idea, stating that it wouldn’t disrupt the game’s balance and would still incentivize placing Pokémon in Gyms, others expressed concerns that too many rewards would drive casual players away, as high-level players would monopolize them. The player community simply cannot agree on potential solutions.

It’s worth noting that the Raids and Gyms system has remained largely unchanged since 2017, and many players are growing tired of it. It remains unclear whether Niantic, the developer, plans to address this feature in upcoming updates.
