Pokémon Go’s Party Up Event Sparks Frustration Among Players

Tim Price

Pokémon Go’s latest event, the Party Up event, has caused frustration among players due to its exclusive focus on Party Play. The event aims to promote the Party Play feature and celebrate Paldean Pokémons, but all of the Timed Research tasks require players to be in parties. This restriction has left many players unable to participate in the research, especially those who don’t have people to team up with.

A Reddit post by user u/LycanRPG expressed major frustration about the event’s Timed Research being limited to Party Play only. The lack of alternatives for solo players or those without a group to team up with has further exacerbated the issue. LycanRPG mentioned that they don’t know anyone else in their city who plays Pokémon Go and are not comfortable approaching random strangers to form a party. Additionally, the timing of the event during Thanksgiving week means that many players won’t be available to team up.

The Party Play feature has always been a challenge for rural players, as finding or connecting with other players in remote areas is difficult due to the lower player population. This event restriction further highlights this issue.

Interestingly, Lycan’s post garnered support from other players who also planned to skip the Party Up event for the same reason. Many emphasized the importance of treating Pokémon Go as a game and suggested focusing on spending time with family and friends instead of stressing over the event. They encouraged players not to waste their energy on something that isn’t worth it and to enjoy the holiday season with loved ones.

Some players admitted that they haven’t skipped a research task in a long time and felt conflicted as completionists. However, they acknowledged that Party Play is not suitable for everyone and accepted the limitations of the event.

The Timed Research exclusive to the Party Up event offers various rewards, including a Hisuian Growlithe encounter, lucky egg, Premium Battle Pass, and 1,000 Stardust. While these rewards are exciting, missing out on them is not a significant loss as there will be other opportunities to earn similar rewards.

Players can still participate in the Field Research and the paid Special Research if they haven’t obtained the second Master Ball. These alternatives provide additional gameplay options for those unable to engage in Party Play.

Overall, the Party Up event’s exclusive focus on Party Play has sparked frustration among players, particularly those without access to a group. However, there are alternative gameplay options available, and players are encouraged to prioritize enjoying time with family and friends during the holiday season.
