Pokémon TCG Promo Card Featuring Pikachu and Charizard to be Released

Tim Price

The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) continues to impress with its latest promo card featuring both Pikachu and Charizard. This special card is a treat for casual fans and collectors alike, and it comes with an incredible story.

The Pokémon Company International has announced that the Pikachu promo SVP #101 will be distributed to players in November at Pokémon League events held in participating stores. These events are officially recognized by The Pokémon Company and are open tournaments for TCG and VGC players of all ages and skill levels.

It’s important to note that these promo cards will have limited availability and will be given out at the discretion of each Pokémon League organizer. This measure is in place to prevent potential scalpers from collecting multiple cards and spoiling the experience for other players, as seen with the Pokémon Van Gogh museum collaboration.

This particular promo card has already been released in several Asian countries for World 2023 and the Asia Championships 2023. It is now making its way through Japan’s Gym event circuit and will soon be available at Pokémon League events in the West.

The artwork for this Pikachu promo was created by Jiro Sasumo, the winner of the 2020 Pokémon Illustration Contest. Interestingly, the art is a flipped image of Sasumo’s original Charizard card, which depicted the Fire Starter facing off against an unknown Pokémon in a stadium.

Based on this artwork, we now know that Sasumo’s Charizard was actually staring down a Pikachu on the other side. This holds more significance now that the original Pokémon anime has concluded, with the final epic battle between Ash’s Pikachu and Leon’s Charizard.

If you’re eager to get your hands on this Pikachu promo card, all you need to do is build a TCG deck or VGC team and participate in a Pokémon League tournament at your nearest shop. The card will be available sometime in November, so it’s a good idea to start checking out local spots now to avoid any last-minute hassle.
