Pro League of Legends Players and Their Iconic Champion Picks

Tim Price

League of Legends Pros Who Became Champions

It’s a rare achievement for a professional League of Legends player to become synonymous with one of the game’s champions. Only a few players have ever been known for their pocket picks, and even fewer have gone down in history as the go-to player for a specific champion.

The Most Iconic Player/Champion Combinations

Fans of League of Legends esports recently debated which pro player/champion combinations are the most iconic of all time. Factors such as individual performance, win rate, and memorable plays were taken into account to determine the players with the most recognizable picks.

One of the most agreed-upon answers was JD Gaming mid laner Knight’s Ahri. Throughout his career, Knight has an impressive 84 percent win rate with Ahri, holding a record of 39 wins and 7 losses. In 2023 alone, Knight has won 19 out of 20 games with Ahri, including a victory over Team BDS in JDG’s opening game of the Worlds Swiss stage.

Another popular pick among fans is Faker’s LeBlanc. Faker, often considered the greatest of all time (G.O.A.T), has won 45 out of 55 games with LeBlanc, boasting a KDA of 5.8—the highest among all champions he has played at least 20 games with. Faker’s career started with a remarkable 12-game winning streak on LeBlanc, which was eventually broken in a thrilling match against Edward Gaming in the 2015 Mid-Season Invitational grand final. However, Faker has recently surpassed his previous win streak and is currently on a 16-game winning streak with LeBlanc since January 2022.

In our opinion, the most iconic champion/player pairing of all time is Madlife’s Thresh. Madlife, widely regarded as the best support player ever, revolutionized the support role with his exceptional use of Thresh. He turned it into an engage-heavy position, showcasing incredible plays that will never be forgotten. When thinking of Thresh, Madlife is the first player that comes to mind, as no one else has come close to his mastery of this iconic champion.

Other legendary players mentioned by fans include Keria’s support Ashe, Bjergsen’s Zilean, and Froggen’s Anivia. Froggen, even after retiring from the pro scene, remains unmatched in his skill and expertise with Anivia, making him a true legend of the game.

Upcoming Clash of Champions

Faker and Knight, two exceptional players, will have the opportunity to showcase their skills with their signature champions in the upcoming Worlds semifinals on Sunday, Nov. 12. This will be the third consecutive international tournament where JD Gaming and T1 face off in the semifinals. With both teams having previously won one meeting each, the stakes are high as they compete for a spot in the Worlds grand final.
