Pznguin Departs Spacestation Gaming After Disappointing World Championships

Derek Morgan

After a disappointing early exit from the 2023 Halo Infinite World Championships, HCS support player of the year Pznguin has left the Spacestation Gaming roster. This marks the first major move in what is expected to be a busy offseason.

Spacestation Gaming had high hopes for their roster, but ultimately finished in third place at Worlds. They narrowly lost to OpTic Gaming in the upper bracket final and were unable to recover, resulting in a 3-0 sweep by FaZe Clan in the grand finals.

Pznguin expressed his gratitude towards Spacestation Gaming, praising them as a top-tier organization that cares about Halo and the community. He will always cherish his time with the team and wishes them the best.

Pznguin had been competing with Eco and Stellur since 2020 when they were acquired by Cloud9. Under Cloud9’s banner, they became one of the most dominant teams in Halo esports history, winning back-to-back events. However, their success waned, leading to Renegade’s departure and the addition of rookie Bound.

The team continued to face challenges after being acquired by Spacestation Gaming. While they did secure a victory against Sentinels at the Salt Lake City Major, they struggled to consistently achieve first place finishes.

Pznguin’s departure comes as a surprise, as he has been a part of the core team for over three years. It will be a significant change for both Pznguin and Spacestation Gaming as they seek to find a replacement. This move also indicates that even top teams are making changes during the offseason, which was not common in previous years.

As we head into 2024, Pznguin will be a free agent to watch. The details for the third year of the Halo Championship Series have not been announced yet, but it is expected to be a big one. The viewership for the 2023 World Championship exceeded that of the previous year, highlighting the growing popularity of Halo esports.
