Quake Pro League to End in 2024, but Quake Esport Continues

Xavier Ward

The Quake Pro League, one of the oldest esports, will not be renewed in 2024, but this doesn’t mean the end for Quake as an esport. Developers have stated that they will explore future opportunities for hosting competitions and collaborate with community members and tournament organizations interested in hosting Quake events. While the Quake Pro League will no longer continue, it is likely that future competitions will be held under a different branding. The fate of the Quake World Championship is still unknown.

Quake has a rich history as one of the pioneers of first-person shooters and is often considered the godfather of the genre. However, it has lost popularity among modern gamers who prefer tactical shooters and more casual first-person shooter games like Counter-Strike, Call of Duty, and VALORANT. Despite this, Quake still holds a special place in the hearts of many esports enthusiasts.

Every esport and game experiences ups and downs in popularity, and Quake is no exception. While it may not regain its former glory as the top competitive title, it should still be recognized as a viable and respected esport. As long as the game remains enjoyable and attracts players, there will always be a competitive scene for Quake. It deserves to be part of the esports legacy and continue to thrive for years to come.
