Apex Legends’ ranked games have been disappointing since the season 17 overhaul. Despite some damage control in season 18, it wasn’t convincing enough. The recently announced ranked improvements for season 19 have also failed to impress the fandom.
On October 17, Respawn announced three new ranked updates for the upcoming season, starting on October 31. However, the community has expressed disappointment with these changes.
Players are tired of the degrading ranked experience, from extended queue times to being forced into higher-skilled lobbies. Many have shifted to playing casual games only or have stopped playing altogether.
According to official numbers, Respawn has made efforts to offer a fairer and more enjoyable experience in the current season. The rank distribution is currently balanced, but there is room for improvement.
However, players feel that the upcoming changes do not address one of the biggest issues. It has become incredibly difficult for players to rank up to their deserved tier, with Diamond and Platinum players being matched against Predator and Master players. The shift from skill-based matchmaking to hidden MMR has been blamed for messing up the matchmaking system.
The upcoming ranked changes for season 19 will focus on offering more rating bonuses to help players rank up faster and reduce Ladder Point drops after provisional matches. While this should solve some complaints, it may not address all of the player base’s concerns.
In season 19, players will be able to play in premade parties of three without any ranked restrictions, but they will face lobbies based on their team’s highest rank.
It’s important to note that season 19 of Apex is yet to go live, and Respawn may introduce more changes to ranked with the official launch on October 31.
