Amidst player confusion and complaints, Respawn has admitted to encountering “several issues” with the recently introduced cross-progression update in Apex Legends. This admission comes after many players expressed frustration over long wait times to merge their accounts.
The cross-progression feature was highly anticipated by the community and was launched on October 31 at the start of Season 19 “Ignite.” It allows players to carry over their rank progress across different platforms, whether they are playing on PC or console. Additionally, in-game currency, badges, and cosmetics are now accessible to all players, regardless of the platform they used.
Respawn and Electronic Arts assured players that the change would be gradually rolled out to everyone, but did not provide a specific timeline. However, fans became confused when they had to wait for more than two weeks without any indication that their accounts were ready to merge.
Despite numerous tweets questioning the cross-progression rollout, Respawn did not directly address player concerns until now, admitting on X (formerly Twitter) that they indeed encountered issues, more than two weeks after Season 19 began.
“We recently resolved several issues related to cross-progression and will continue rolling out more waves over the next few days. As a reminder, please refrain from unlinking your @PlayApex accounts as it will not impact when you receive cross-progression. Thank you for your patience,” Respawn stated.
However, this post was met with criticism from many in the Apex community. Fans pointed out that Respawn thanked them for their patience, even though they had no choice but to wait. The lack of communication regarding the cross-progression issues further fueled criticism and sarcasm towards the company’s apparent inability to keep players informed.
Respawn has not provided specific details about the issues faced with cross-progression, leading some to view their statement as an “update that is not really an update.” While Respawn claims that cross-progression will continue to be rolled out, trust between the community and the game developers has been significantly strained.
Dot Esports has reached out to Respawn and EA for clarification on the cross-progression issues but has not received a response at this time.
