The Wild Rift and League of Legends communities are furious with Riot Games after it was discovered that the company may have used AI voiceover for the reveal video of the new champion, Sivir. The narrator mispronounced the champion’s name as “severe” instead of “Sivir,” causing outrage among players. Aaron “Medic” Chamberlain, a play-by-play caster for the LEC, was one of the first to point out this issue on social media.
While Riot has not confirmed the use of AI for the voiceover, the controversy surrounding the narrator has overshadowed the excitement for Sivir’s Wild Rift release. The community’s response has been overwhelmingly negative, with players criticizing Riot as a “cheap” company and describing the reveal video as “cringe.”
This is not the first time Riot has disappointed Wild Rift players, according to content creator Stuart “ITzSTU4RT” Gilson. He claims that the production quality for Wild Rift is subpar, even going so far as to mention a recent post that included a link to Teamfight Tactics content.
If Riot did indeed use AI voiceover for Sivir’s reveal, it would not be surprising considering the growing trend of AI usage in the gaming industry. Many companies are turning to AI as a cost-effective and efficient alternative for various tasks. However, this would be the first instance of Riot utilizing AI in this manner.
Dot Esports has reached out to Riot for comment on the matter.
