Roadhog’s upcoming rework in Overwatch 2 has been a topic of discussion among fans and developers. During a recent conversation with content creators, lead hero designer Alec Dawson revealed an amusing ability idea that didn’t make it into Roadhog’s kit.
One of the new abilities for Roadhog is called Pig Pen, a deployable trap that combines damage and crowd control. This ability allows for potential one-shot combos, bringing back the powerful aspect of Roadhog’s gameplay.
However, Dawson mentioned that his team experimented with several other ideas, including a fan-theorized ability called “Butt Slam.” This ability involved Roadhog jumping into the air and slamming down, similar to a move seen in Super Mario games. While it sounded entertaining, it felt out of place and complicated Roadhog’s kit.
Ultimately, the team focused on enhancing the experience for Roadhog players and decided to include Pig Pen as the new ability. This choice maintains the hero’s one-shot potential while offering something different from the crowd-controlling stomp ability of the upcoming hero Mauga.
Roadhog’s rework will be live in Overwatch 2 tomorrow, Nov. 14. Fans can look forward to trying out the new abilities and experiencing the enhanced gameplay.
