Psyonix, the developer of Rocket League, has announced that the player-to-player cosmetic trading feature will be removed from the game within the next two months. This decision, forced by Epic Games, has been met with frustration and anger from the game’s player base.
The feature will officially be removed on December 5th, coinciding with the launch of season 13. After this date, players will no longer be able to trade items with each other, forcing them to either grind in-game events or purchase new items themselves. Psyonix stated that this change is in line with Epic’s approach to game cosmetics and item shop policies, where items are not tradable, transferrable, or sellable.
Any trades made before December 5th will be finalized, even if they were temporary loans. The trade-in system, allowing players to exchange duplicate or unwanted items, will still be available. However, the removal of this long-standing feature has received overwhelmingly negative feedback from the community.
Former player/coach and current content creator Treyven “Lethamyr” Robitaille expressed his frustration on Twitter, stating, “I’d run this game better than whoever is making these decisions. I’m heated at how poorly this game is being treated. Rocket League deserves better.” Many other professional players, community members, and organizations have also voiced their shock and disappointment regarding this change. Additionally, third-party Rocket League marketplace sites that rely on the in-game player trading feature will be greatly impacted.
Despite the backlash, the removal of the player-to-player trading feature is set to proceed, marking a significant shift in the game’s dynamics and economy.
