A second print of Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter is set to hit North American stores ahead of schedule, with booster pack restocks scheduled for next week, according to Ravensburger. However, concerns about price gouging continue to worry many in the community.
The official launch of Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter did not go as planned. Due to distributor shortages, price gouging, scalpers, and product shortages, players and fans have been eagerly awaiting a second print of the TCG set, originally expected in December. Ravensburger has now announced that the release date for North American players has been moved up, with shipping expected to begin in mid-November.
Fans can also look forward to the arrival of booster packs from The First Chapter in local game stores between the end of October and the beginning of November.
“We hope that this reprint quantity will make the game more easily accessible,” said Ravensburger. “Our goal is to ensure that fans have no trouble finding the product they need to get started.”
Despite these assurances, many in the community remain concerned about price gouging. At the time of writing, booster boxes for The First Chapter are listed on TCGPlayer for $373, with a market price of $342. However, the suggested MSRP for a booster box is around $150.
Most local game stores are likely to offer the booster packs at a fair price when the October restock arrives, and larger retailers will adhere to the MSRP for the second print run. However, if these stores sell out or receive insufficient stock from distributors once again, a repeat of the launch issues is inevitable.
In addition to the restock of The First Chapter and the upcoming release of Disney Lorcana: Rise of the Floodborn in November, Ravensburger has also teased the start of an official competitive circuit in 2024. Casual players can expect more events in 2024 to coincide with league events at local game stores.
The second print of The First Chapter is expected to arrive in North America around November 15, with the launch of Disney Lorcana: Rise of the Floodborn following on November 17.
