A major change is on the horizon for the competitive Counter-Strike scene as G2 superstar Nikola “NiKo” Kovač is reportedly poised to sign with Saudi Arabian organization Falcons Esports. The deal, which involves a multi-million dollar buyout of NiKo’s contract from G2, could potentially become one of the largest transfers in esports history.
According to reports from French site 1pv.fr, the move to Falcons is already a done deal. NiKo will be joining the team under the guidance of newly announced coach Danny “zonic” Sørensen, a five-time Major winner with Astralis and Team Vitality. Falcons has also acquired Vitality’s sports psychologist, further bolstering their support staff.
In addition to NiKo, Falcons has reportedly secured the signing of Emil “Magisk” Reif, a four-time Major-winning player. This acquisition marks the first step in Falcons’ plan to create a “superteam” for 2024. Other potential targets for the organization include Marco “Snappi” Pfeiffer and NiKo’s current G2 teammate Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov.
Meanwhile, G2 is fielding offers for m0NESY, with bids reaching into the millions. NiKo, widely regarded as one of the best Counter-Strike players without a Major title, will be aiming to achieve this milestone with his new team. With the caliber of talent joining Falcons, expectations are high for them to compete for a Major as early as next year’s event in Copenhagen.
