Sentinels Analyst Responds to Critique of TenZ’s Performance

Derek Morgan

Sentinels analyst, Drew “DrewSpark” Spark-Whitworth, addresses a video critique of TenZ’s gameplay, stating that it was not surprising to the team.

TenZ, a talented VALORANT player for Sentinels, has faced criticism throughout his career. From a lackluster performance in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive with Cloud9, to dominating the VALORANT scene with Sentinels, to experiencing a decline in form, he has heard it all. Sideshow, a former Overwatch League caster and current VALORANT analyst, provided a detailed critique of TenZ’s play, highlighting areas where he underperformed individually.

Sideshow’s video was well-crafted, informative, and supported by solid arguments. He also allowed the coaching staff to be aware of the areas of concern he pointed out. When asked about the video, DrewSpark responded, “I believe most of the criticism is valid and well-presented. I would be interested in seeing Josh make more videos like this about other players. I will also mention that there was nothing new for us in that video, and we have additional context regarding some of the specific points.”

Sentinels had high expectations for their revamped roster, relying on TenZ’s exceptional skills. However, they fell short in the first year of the VALORANT Champions Tour, finishing seventh in the regular season, being eliminated in the initial round of the LOCK//IN tournament, and failing to qualify for Champions. While Sentinels have a prestigious reputation in VALORANT, they still have a long way to go before achieving deep runs in international tournaments in this new era. It is worth noting that Sentinels remains committed to TenZ and has retained him for the 2024 season.
