A potential sequel to the popular management simulation game Prison Architect may be on the horizon. Fans recently discovered that the game has received an age rating in South Korea, hinting at a possible follow-up release.
Originally released in 2015 for PC, Prison Architect allows players to construct and oversee their own prison. The game’s success led to ports for consoles and mobile devices, as well as numerous updates and DLC over the course of eight years. The final update was released just six months ago in May.
Although no official announcement has been made, the appearance of a rating for Prison Architect 2 on the website of Korea’s Game Rating and Administration Committee, with Paradox Interactive listed as the publisher (the company that holds the rights to the first game), suggests that a sequel is in the works.
Paradox hinted at a possible sequel in the patch notes for the final update of the original Prison Architect. The notes stated, “While we’re closing this chapter, the book is certainly not yet finished.” The accompanying update trailer also featured a 2D animated character transforming into a more detailed 3D model, indicating that the sequel may feature a fully 3D perspective. The original game utilized a top-down 2D view, although there was a hidden 3D option with less detailed character models.
Reactions to the news have been mixed among fans. Some are excited about the prospect of a sequel, while others express concerns about Paradox’s involvement. Paradox acquired the rights to Prison Architect in 2019 after it was originally developed and published by British studio Introversion Software.
Regardless of opinions, it is clear that Prison Architect has left a lasting impact on players, and many are eager to see what a potential sequel may bring.
