Shadow Priests Nerfed in Patch 10.2: The End of Their Reign

Tim Price

Shadow Priests have been dominating Mythic+ dungeons since their rework in Patch 10.1, but their luck is about to change in Patch 10.2. Blizzard is drastically reducing the power of Shadow Priests with a series of nerfs. These changes will significantly impact their performance and make them less essential in the meta.

The key nerfs include reducing the Haste and duration of Power Infusion, increasing the cooldown of Mass Dispel, and removing the cast time reduction from Improved Mass Dispel. Combined with previous hotfixes and the reliance on Shadow Word: Pain and Death abilities in their tier sets, it’s clear that Shadow Priests won’t remain at the top of the DPS charts in the next patch.

Shadow Priests have been the go-to DPS class for Mythic+ keys since the Patch 10.1 rework. They effortlessly topped the DPS charts while also providing off-healing, dispels, and utility through Power Infusion and CC. The only area where they lacked was interrupts, which could be compensated by bringing along melee DPS specs and healers with interrupts.

In Patches 10.1.5 and 10.1.7, Shadow Priests continued to shine with the introduction of the Augmentation Evoker spec. This marked the golden era for Shadow Priests as they became a crucial part of the “god comp” composition, alongside Guardian Druids, Holy Paladins, and Fire Mages. This composition had the ability to tackle any key and achieve success.

If you’re currently playing a Shadow Priest, it’s advisable to start leveling a new alt or consider switching to healing in the upcoming patch. The reign of Shadow Priests as top DPS is coming to an end.
