In a surprising move, Shopify Rebellion has announced that it has released its VALORANT Game Changers roster, making the players unrestricted free agents. The announcement was made in a video posted on Twitter by program development lead Dario “TLO” Wünsch. TLO stated that the players are now free to explore their options without any conditions until 2024.
The decision to release the roster comes as a shock to fans, as the Game Changers team has been the most successful VALORANT team for Shopify Rebellion. Unlike their male counterparts who have struggled in tier two, the Game Changers team achieved great success, including a second-place finish in the first-ever Game Changers World Championship last year.
The core of the team, consisting of Erika “KP” Lytle, Kayla “flowerful” Horton, and Diana “sonder” Zhang, has been playing together since June 2021, making them one of the longest-standing cores in the North American Game Changers scene.
However, TLO admitted that the team and organization did not meet their goals in 2023. They failed to qualify for Champions and also struggled to establish the team culture they desired. Despite bringing in new and familiar faces throughout the year, they fell short of their ambitions.
The future of both the players and Shopify Rebellion’s involvement in the Game Changers circuit remains uncertain. TLO expressed belief that the players will find success individually and assured that Shopify will support them in their endeavors. While the organization still intends to compete in Game Changers, their next steps are unclear.
