Skull Island: Rise of Kong – The Worst Game of 2023?

superadmin

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum now has a contender for the title of the worst game of 2023. Skull Island: Rise of Kong has recently gained viral attention for its laughably bad cutscene, leaving gamers worldwide in disbelief.

If you haven’t heard of this game yet, you’re not alone. The existence of Skull Island: Rise of Kong was only discovered in December of last year, and it wasn’t until July that an official trailer was released. It seems that the developers, IguanaBee Studios, and publishers, GameMill Entertainment, were not eager to showcase their work. And now we know why.

The game’s cutscene, which went viral thanks to user @RickDaSquirrel, is truly cringe-worthy. After defeating one creature, King Kong must now face a purple dinosaur of some sort. The flashback sequence, depicted through a still image instead of animation, is meme-worthy and lacks any artistic effort.

Ignoring the outdated graphics that belong to a game from two console generations ago, one can’t help but wonder how this messy state of the game was released. Failing to even properly size up the image and stylize it to look like a flashback is a regrettable decision that rightfully receives criticism.

Reddit user RatEnthusiastC commented, “This looks like CGI from a Law & Order-type show when an episode is loosely related to video games.” Another user on X, @sjfostersound, compared it to Peter Jackson’s King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie (2005), stating that it might even look better than Rise of Kong.

Comparing the two games, graphically speaking, Peter Jackson’s King Kong does appear dated in comparison to Rise of Kong. However, the older game is commended for its enjoyable gameplay and solid mechanics. Fans have nothing but good things to say about it.

On the other hand, players who have experienced Skull Island: Rise of Kong express their unanimous hatred for the game. The combat is glitch-ridden and dull, and the story is not worth enduring the horrible experience. It’s absurd to think that this game is priced at $40.

Unlike the film industry, gaming does not have a Golden Raspberry Award show. This is mainly because big-budget games that fail to impress upon release often improve through patches, leaving a positive lasting impression once support ends. However, perhaps it’s time to consider changing that this year.

IguanaBee Studios has managed to rival Daedalic Entertainment in creating a disastrous game. It’s worth noting that both the King Kong and Lord of the Rings franchises have had films directed by Peter Jackson. It might be wise to avoid any future video game adaptations of Mortal Engines.
