Skye’s Flashing Abilities in VALORANT: A New Strategy for Duelist Plays

superadmin

VALORANT players were taken aback when Skye, known for her powerful flashing abilities, received a series of changes that made it more challenging to flash for oneself in direct confrontations. However, popular VALORANT content creator Jakub “Lothar” Szygulski has discovered a useful strategy that allows this formidable initiator to execute duelist plays of her own.

In Lothar’s latest video, he delves into Riot Games’ recent adjustments to Skye, which include an increase in her weapon equip speed after activating her Guiding Light flash. Patch 7.04 brought another nerf to her flash, reducing the cast time to two seconds, making it more difficult for her to clear out long sight lines.

Nevertheless, Lothar has uncovered a specific method that enables Skye to effectively utilize her flash, draw her weapon, and swiftly engage her opponents as her bird blinds them. The technique is simple: refrain from controlling the bird once it is cast.

Typically, players guide the bird by continuously holding down the fire button after it is released, allowing them to maneuver the bird while it is in flight. While this can be advantageous for flashing around corners or into the sky, it hampers the ability to quickly follow up with weaponry due to Skye’s increased re-equip time.

Consequently, Lothar opts not to control the bird at all. Instead, he identifies the ideal angle or trajectory to cast the bird, ensuring that it appears directly in front of his enemies. This approach also permits him to draw his weapon while the flash is still in motion and reposition himself so that when he activates the ability, he is prepared to swiftly turn the corner and capitalize on the momentary burst of light.

This way, Guiding Light functions more like a duelist’s flash, akin to Phoenix’s Curveball, Reyna’s Leer, or Yoru’s Blindside, enabling Skye to promptly peek an angle after her flash and secure a couple of kills on unsuspecting foes.

Lothar also showcases some unique angles for one-way flashes on the Lotus map. With numerous maps in rotation, this tactic could become a nuisance for solo queue players who may soon encounter this new Skye technique.
