Sledgehammer Games Open to Adding One-vs-One Mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 if There’s Enough Player Interest

Derek Morgan

A one-vs-one mode is the ultimate test of skill for gamers, but unfortunately, it doesn’t exist in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. However, Sledgehammer Games has expressed their willingness to add it if there is sufficient demand from players.

During a Reddit AMA thread on November 20th, a fan asked if the developers had any plans to bring back the one-vs-one mode to MW3. A Sledgehammer developer responded by confirming that there are currently no immediate plans for such a mode, but they didn’t rule out the possibility of adding it in the future.

Many Call of Duty players may feel nostalgic when thinking about the one-vs-one mode, as it was a true testament to one’s skill. Solo showdowns on maps like Shipment or Rust were the perfect way to prove oneself and earn bragging rights. However, without a dedicated one-vs-one mode, it became challenging to challenge others in the game.

While there is some demand for this iconic mode, it may not be enough to convince the developers to bring it back. As Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone continue to evolve, the need for a one-on-one mode has gradually diminished over time. Even if there is immediate demand, it could decline further once a one-vs-one playlist is introduced. The lack of nostalgia after a few weeks could significantly impact the player count for this mode.

Considering these factors, the CoD developers have been focusing on features and events that cater to a wider audience, as the majority of players are more interested in those instead of niche modes. However, to keep the game fresh throughout the year, a variety of content is necessary. If ideas for new content become scarce, there is a possibility that a one-vs-one mode could be introduced, potentially alongside a couple of event quests. Ultimately, this decision lies with Sledgehammer Games.
